Life’s Most Important Question

Life’s Most Important Question is: Do you know for sure you’re going to Heaven?

Life’s Most Important Decision is: Will you trust and commit your life to God’s solution to getting to heaven – His Son, Jesus?

It’s not as complicated as you may think:
  1. We are separated from God because of our sin.
  2. God loves us and did something to solve our separation problem. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place to pay our penalty so we could be restored/reconciled to God now and for eternity.
  3. God has given us the choice to accept or reject His Solution.
  4. God will honor our choice.

Life’s most important decision is will you trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-8) as the payment for your sins and commit to living His way? This is what the word believe means, as in “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. (John 3:16)

The Choice is Yours

The decision to accept God’s Solution to our sin and separation problem is just the beginning. Once we choose to accept God’s Solution we begin a new life. Like infancy, it begins with needing much help in living the new life God has provided.

From the moment we accept God’s Solution we begin the journey of learning how to follow Him His way, which is a life of love, joy, peace… and so much more. It’s life the way God created it to be lived. Click here for resources.

Let me warn you, as good as this sounds, living life God’s way is filled with new challenges because we live in a sinful world and God’s greatest enemy (Satan) has now become your/our enemy (1 Peter 5:8).

The good news is that God has provided everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). These things are His written revelation known as the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21), His Spirit, known as the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22; John 14:15-18; 15:26-27; 16:7-15), and His Church (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:42). Click here to learn more about God’s church.

Therefore, it is vital that you get in His Word (Bible) daily, that you learn to sense the Holy Spirit’s leading, and that you get connected to a group of people who are also following Jesus.

There is much to learn. However, this takes place one step at a time as you walk with God, trusting Him to lead and guide you on your journey with Him.

The Problem with Sin

by Tim Leahy

The problem with sin is that it separates and destroys. It destroyed humanity’s relationship with God, it destroys relationships between people, and it destroys us individually.

Before we go further let me define sin. Sin is disobedience/rebellion. It is doing what we have been told not to do or failing to do what we have been instructed to do by God.

Let me also clear up a common misrepresentation of God. He is not a control freak or the Divine cop waiting to bust us. He is our Heavenly Father (Ephesians 1:2-3) who loves us and wants what’s best for us.

As our Heavenly Father, He has provided rules for us to live by because He knows what’s best for us and He doesn’t want us to be destroyed by sin. This is no different than us as parents. We don’t let our kids play in traffic or play with venomous snakes because we don’t want harm to come to them. We want to protect them, just as our Heavenly Father wants to protect us from the destructiveness of sin.

The Origin of Sin

According to God, sin came about because the first humans (Adam and Eve) disobeyed Him. In Genesis 2:15-17, God told Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and warned him if he did he would die. The word “die” (death) means separation. God was telling Adam if he disobeyed (sin) he would be separated from Him (spiritual death) [Isaiah 59:2] and he would begin physically dying and would be physically separated from his body and life on earth (Genesis 5:5).

This one act of disobedience destroyed the perfect relationship between God and man, and affected all of humanity (Roman 5:12). Because God is our loving Heavenly Father He did not leave us in our separated and destructive condition. He did something about it. He provided a Way to restore our relationship with Him and a Way for us not to have to live with sin’s destructive consequences. This Good News is called the Gospel – click here for details. God’s solution was Jesus.

What Constitutes Sin?

As I previously mentioned, sin is disobedience/rebellion. It is doing what we have been told not to do or failing to do what we have been instructed to do by God.

Sin is what God says it is in His written revelation known as the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). It’s not a matter of opinion. Humans don’t determine what is and what isn’t sin, God does. Therefore, it is important to know what God says (Click here to read “Why Read The Bible”).

There are sins of the mind (Matthew 5:28-29; 1 John 3:15); sins of the mouth – taking God’s name in vain, lying, cursing, being mean to others (Ephesians 4:29, 5:4, Colossians 3:8) there are sins of the flesh – theft, drunkenness, murder, rape, fornication, adultery , homosexuality (1 Corinthians 6:18; Galatians 5:16). This is not a complete list, but you get the general idea. All sin damages and destroys. It damages our relationship with God, our relationship with others and even how we feel about ourselves.

As I mentioned earlier, because God loves us, He does not want our relationship with Him (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9), or others to be damaged and destroyed, so He provided a Solution.

God’s Solution for Sin

If you took the time to read The Gospel you discovered that God sent His only Son, Jesus, to die in our place to pay the penalty for our sins (John 3:16; Romans 4:25) so we could be freed from sin’s destructive consequences now and for eternity (Romans 6:18).

We do not have to live separated from God or be captive to sin’s destructive consequences. He has given us the choice to receive Jesus’ gift of forgiveness and restoration through faith (Romans 6: 23; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Our Choice Regarding Sin

The choice is yours. You can trust that Jesus died for your sins to reconcile you to God and commit your life to living God’s Way, or you can reject God’s gift and live your way. God will honor your choice. To receive Jesus, please click here.

As followers of Jesus we do not have to live in sin (Romans 6:1-5). That doesn’t mean we won’t sin, it just means we don’t have to continue to live in sin. He has given us a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:9-10), His Spirit lives in us (1 Corinthians 3:16; Romans 8:11), and He given us His Spirit and His Word/Bible to transform us (Romans 12:1-2).

Therefore, as followers of Jesus we can choose to live His way – believing and following His way, or we can live in sin and live a defeated, destructive and unfulfilled life. The choice is ours. Jesus said He came to give us a full and abundant life (John 10:10), therefore, why live in sin? If you have questions and want to talk to someone about all of this, please click here.

Additional information about My Story

I’m including additional information because it falls in the TMI (too much information) category for the “My Story” article. Here I will share a little deeper about why I created LMIQ.org, giving a little more insight to why I do what I do.

I believe whole-heartedly that Jesus died for everyone on planet earth so we could have a personal and eternal relationship with our Creator. I also believe that Jesus gives every follower the privilege and mandate to tell others about Him (Matthew 28:18-20).

LMIQ.org gives me and anyone else the opportunity to tell others about Jesus. This can be done through Facebook or any of the other social media services. This is also accomplished through the LMIQ  E-Cards. Click here to learn more about sharing Jesus using the            E-Cards.

Another reason for LMIQ.org is technology. There are millions of people we will never meet or have the opportunity to talk to about Jesus. With today’s technology we have an opportunity to reach these people through Facebook or any of the other social media services. One message can be shared and spread like fire. We strike the match, God uses the flame (John 6:44; John 6:65).

The reality is that we can only have so many relationships where we can personally impact others for Jesus. However, we come in contact with new people every day, most of whom we will never meet again this side of Heaven. These divine appointments are opportunities to communicate and provide them with the Gospel (the good news that God loves them and has an amazing plan and purpose for their lives). This is known as planting a seed. Although we are not responsible for what they do with the seed, we are responsible for planting it.

My Story

Renae's 50th Birthday (2)I was raised in a very good and loving Catholic family. I went to Catholic school for all but one year (K-12). Up until 30 years of age, I believed I was going to Heaven because I was comparatively a good person. I wasn’t a murderer, rapist, bank robber, drug dealer or committing any of the other “big” sins.

On April 23rd 1993 I was unemployed, married with 3 very young children and like any unemployed father of 3 small children, I was home watching Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”. In the scene where Belle was singing “There must be more to this provincial life”, I agreed wholeheartedly with her. As I thought on that, I sensed a still small voice saying “There is, it’s about God”.

As I pondered that thought, I knew through my 18 years of church and Catholic school that Jesus had died on a cross for me. At that time I didn’t know a lot, but I knew that life was bigger than me, so I committed my life to Him and began my journey with Jesus. As I started my journey, I discovered that my comparatively good works were not getting me into Heaven because God’s standard is perfection (Matthew 5:48). I also discovered that it was and is by God’s grace through faith in Jesus that we get to Heaven. I didn’t earn it. It was a gift of God, not by works so no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

I’m not entirely sure why I thought that good works would get me into Heaven. But, two questions along with the previously mentioned Bible verse shattered that myth:

  1. If I could get to Heaven by good deeds then where is the line? How many good deeds do I need?
  2. If I could get to Heaven by my good works then why did Jesus come and die on the cross?

My wife and I started to attend church and as I sat there week after week I became frustrated because I wasn’t learning fast enough. I discovered that there was a lot that I didn’t know, and I knew I couldn’t live for someone I didn’t know. So I enrolled in online Bible School and began an eight year journey discovering what an awesome God we have. I did not set out to get a Bachelor degree, but after 8 years I graduated with a degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University.

I have been blessed beyond measure; my journey with Jesus has been far greater than anything I could have come up with on my own. I have been allowed by God to serve Him in many different ways over the past 20 years: working with at-risk teens, youth pastor, Bible teacher, Athletic Director, basketball and soccer coach, Interim Pastor, and Associate Pastor.

God has blessed me with a wonderful wife (1988) and a beautiful family (5 children and 3 grandchildren).  My wife and I are empty nesters who enjoy watching our children and grandchildren become all that God created them to become.

It has been a privilege living for Jesus since 1993 and serving Him in a variety of evangelistic and discipleship ministries since 1995 (click here to view ministry experience). In 2017 I continued this journey by starting Reach (Evangelism and Discipleship Training Ministry).

In 2018 I partnered with as a certified trainer and look forward to how God will use Reach and to train followers of Jesus on how to fulfill His “Great Commission” to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20).

If you would like to talk to me about reaching your community with the Gospel through Reach and training please contact me by using the Contact Me form.

Tim

Why Church?

by Tim Leahy

The church is important because God created the church. The church is not a building or a denomination; it is an assembly or gathering of people who follow Jesus.

The question is, why did God create the church? In this article I want to answer that question by sharing what God says about His Church in His Word (Bible).

The first time the word church is mentioned in the Bible is in Matthew 16:18 where Jesus tells His disciples that He will build His church on the truth of Peter’s answer to Jesus’ question in v. 16 – “Who do you say I am?” Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

Jesus said that His church (Ephesians 1:22-23) would be built on (“this rock”) the fact that He is the promised Christ/Messiah – God’s solution to humanity’s sin and separation problem. Click here to read “The Problem of Sin”.

God created the church as a gathering of Jesus followers to love and encourage one another in following Jesus (John 13:34-35; 15:15), and to tell those who don’t know or understand that Jesus is God’s solution to humanity’s biggest problem [sin and separation from God] (Matthew 28:18-20). We don’t go to church, we are the church.

Did you notice that in Matthew 16:18 Jesus told His followers that not even Hell/Satan would prevail against His church? That’s good news! Since God created the church, it will prevail and provide what He created it to provide – a gathering of people who love God and love others (Matthew 22:37). Read the book of Acts to see God’s church from its inception. Click here to go to the book of Acts.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for people and Satan (1 Peter 5:8) to corrupt the church as the book of Acts and the other letters to the church reveals.

The Church is referred to by the Apostle Paul as “a mystery”                   (1 Corinthians 15:51), “the mystery” (Ephesians 3:3), and  “The mystery of Christ” (Ephesians 3:4). In Ephesians 3:6 Paul tells us what the mystery is:  “This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”

What Paul explains in Ephesians 1-3 is that God’s chosen people (Israel) and everyone else (Gentiles) would be combined together to make up His church (Ephesians 3:6) and they would be known as Christ followers (Christians), and together they would all have access to God the Father through faith in His Son Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:12), which is known as “the mystery of His (God’s) will” (Ephesians 1:9) and the “mystery of God” (Colossians 2:2; Revelation 10:7).

God instructs us to meet together  to encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25). That’s the answer to “Why the church?”.  The church is God’s gift to us,  giving us a support system (a local community) to encourage followers of Jesus to live the life He created us to live. We were created to live in community and not in isolation. Click here to read about living in community.
